Submittal review services are an important mechanism used by the construction industry to enable the reliable and timely execution of construction projects. The contractor’s plan for any construction project should address the following elements:
What building systems are essential?
How are they supposed to work consistently with each other?
What underlying materials need to be procured to define the building system?
These questions are addressed via the various technical specifications, shop drawings and installation plans that form the foundation of project execution. It is the responsibility of the contractor or engineer to review these various documents to ensure that they are self-consistent and that the various submittals provided by vendors or subcontractors to satisfy the project are consistent with the requirements. These are essential steps needed to mitigate liability and to facilitate on-time, on-budget completion of the projects.
Submittal review is the process of ensuring this consistency between various requirement documents and vendor/subcontractors submittals. It is a mechanism by which the engineer/contractor is able to improve their confidence level and that of the owner/operator with regard to the project at hand.
